Balázs Sasvári - Head Coach & Lesson Coordinator

Balázs Sasvári comes to us from Hungary, via Alton & District Swimming Club, where he has been the Head Coach for the last 4 years. Balázs will join us from the beginning of Septem-ber.

Balázs is an ex swimmer himself having been Hungarian Na-tional Champion 4 times over various long distances. He was teaching at his fathers swim school before university but con-tinued with teaching and coaching whilst there. He coached in Egypt for a short time before relocating to Petersfield where he became Head Coach at Alton and a swim teacher/coach at Churchers College.

Louise King - Inter Squad Coach

Louise is an ex-swimmer who competed over a number of years in Bedfordshire. Her best stroke was butterfly and best event was 200m where she regularly finaled and has also medalled at regionals. She previously coached at Biggleswade Swimming Club and Mid Beds Swim Squad before going to the University of Brighton to complete her degree of BSc Sport and Exercise Science and also went on to coach the university swim team and travel to Australia to present her undergraduate dissertation theory at the International Symposium of Biomechanics and Medicine in Swimming.  She is a level 2 swimming teacher and coach who would like to do her level 3 coaching in the near future

Charlotte Ovenden Junior Squad Coach

Charlotte has been a member of MSC since she was 11. She swam competitively at a high level for the club reaching medal positions at regional championships and is looking to compete at Masters competitions. A qualified Level 2 Swimming Teacher and Coach who is looking to take her Level 3 Coach qualification in the near future. She is currently the Junior Squad Coach and is aiming to get as many swimmers as possible to County Championships and hoping for some Regional qualifiers in the not too distant future


  • Ian Douglas - Assistant Coach

    Since joining the Modernian Swimming Club as a young swimmer Ian has evolved into a top class coach. He has gained some of the highest level coaching qualifications while continuing his career in teaching at a Bedfordshire school.

    These coaching qualifications include:

    • A.S.A Coaches Award
    • A.S.A Tutor Award.

    Additional achievements include:

    • B.E.d (Hons) P.E & Science
    • Member of the Leadership Team at a school in Luton.


Su Felce - Assistant Coach

As a former swimmer with Modernian Swimming Club many years ago and having worked for over 20 years as a swimming teacher Su qualified as a Level 2 Coach in 2011 as she wanted to be able to offer to help the coaching team whenever I could. Su currently coaches the Senior Squad regularly on a Tuesday morning.

Jessica Stalley - Assistant Coach

Jess is an ex-Modernian now studying at University of Stirling. She is a qualified L2 Teacher and Coach and holds her NRASTC lifesaving qualification. During term time she is an assistant coach at Stirling Swimming Club but when back in Bedford, she assists with both Senior and Junior Squads as well as some cover teaching with lessons

Kim Anastasiou - Assistant Coach

Kimberley originally from Norwich and is at the University of Bedfordshire studying BA (Hons) Secondary PE with QTS. She has been involved in coaching with MSC since the beginning of October 2014. Previously she was coaching within the Junior Development squad at UEA City of Norwich since 2012. She also swam competitively at a high level for UEA city of Norwich, reaching a national final and medal positions at regional championships. Kimberley is a qualified level 2 swimming coach and is lifeguard trained. Currently assisting Vicky Simpson with the senior squad training, Kimberley hopes that she can help develop the swimmers to go further in their swimming over the years.

Sue Coventry - Assistant Coach

Originally from Keynsham Swimming Club near Bath, Sue qualified as an Advanced Swimming Teacher. Sue assists coaching the Senior Squad and went on the Club Training Camp to Hungary in October 2007. Sue is also a National Judge.

Zoe Anesi - Assistant Coach

Zoe is a L2 teacher who balances teaching and coaching within the club. An ex-swimmer herself, she enjoys working with both learn to swim and competitive swimmers in the Junior Squad. She is looking to undertake her L2 Coaching Swimming  qualification in the near future.
